Inter Consolidates As Leader

In the middle of a great classic marked by thrilling and polemic moments, Inter established itself one more time as leader by defeating 2-1 AC Milan that sees how its opportunity to obtain the precious Scudetto disappears away.

Portrayed by an impressive development of high football level, this Italian derby took place in the stadium Giuseppe Meazza, where it started with the Milan dominating the ball and an Inter strongly defending itself and dangerously charging with Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Adriano on a spectacular duo that created a great force on the front.

Both clubs were keeping their attacker-defensive positions until, in the middle of a polemic play, a shot from the Brazilian Maicon intercepted by Adriano -on his intend to head it- went straight to the box from Christian Abbiati; the problem was that the sphere was not hit with head, but with his hand. The referee, lighting at the 29 min. the scoreboard in favor of the Nerazzurri, validated this action, contrary to the expected.

Before this situation, AC Milan felt a little affected even showing a little out of control, looking a little needy of a more competent game strategy, with more speed and coordination that help them repel the powerful opponent attacks and equal the scores. From that first goal on, the Rossoneri turn into the victims of a heavy pressure inflicted by    their rivals, who were not giving the less chance reach their zone.

As the encounter continue, the Inter opted for a more physical strategy, while il Diavolo was concerned on developing its game in a more technical manner; nevertheless, both strategies seamed to give good results for the teams, but the Internazionale was without doubt the most arresting, which worked as the impulse for the Serbian Dejan Stankovic to mark the second unit on the board, on the 43' for the Nerazzurri.

For the second part, Milan managed to overcome the stress for the unfair score going back into the field with an extra offensive attitude that frequently approached them to the contrary frame, building feats that threaten the black-and-blue box from Julio César. Therefore, Inter remain counterattacking aggressively, destroying the rossoneri possibilities.

At the middle of the second period, a shot made from Ronaldinho and rejected by Jankulovski, fell at the feet of the Brazilian forward Alexandre Pato, who on minute 71 and with a potent right kick sent it to the bottom of the net of Il Biscione. From then on and until the final whistling, the 11 directed by José Mourinho seem intimidated, choosing to stay in their zone.

With this triumph, Inter Milan keeps holding on at the pinnacle of the standings of the highest league of the Calcio with 56 points and watches how the way to the precious trophy shortens; following on second is Juventus with 47 units, whereas AC Milan as third (45) tries to not give away to Fiorentina, Genoa and Roma, its chance to compete in the UEFA Champions League, or rather, the European League 2009/10.
